Faye Sultan, PhD
Faye Sultan, PhD* is the Director of University Psychological Associates, P.A. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults, conducting individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy. Dr. Sultan earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1982.
Her clinical interests include working with perpetrators and victims of physical and sexual violence, treatment of sexual dysfunction and the assessment and treatment of clients for whom medical and psychological difficulties overlap. She is a Level II EMDR certified clinician.
Dr. Sultan has a distinguished clinical and academic reputation, serving for six years on the faculty at UNC-Charlotte. She is the author of numerous scholarly articles and chapters in many areas of psychotherapy, sexual dysfunction, and forensic psychology. Dr. Sultan is also the author of two novels, Over the Line and Helpline, published in 8 countries.

Julie Pruitt, PhD
Julie Pruitt, PhD* specializes in the treatment of Depression, eating disorders, sexual abuse survivors, and marital difficulties. Her primary therapeutic orientation is family systems theory and incorporates behavioral and cognitive techniques. Dr. Pruitt earned her doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1987. She also completed an internship and post-doctoral training program at Eastern Virginia Medical School which focused on the treatment of patients with eating disorders and marriage and family therapy. Dr. Pruitt is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and she is a Level II EMDR certified clinician.
David F. Oates, PhD
David F. Oates, PhD specializes in the treatment of Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and interpersonal relationship problems. His repertoire of clinical skills includes brief psychotherapy, as well as cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused methods designed to help his clients develop more adaptive coping behaviors.
He works primarily with adults and adolescents, but also has experience in the evaluation of ADHD and the treatment of disruptive behaviors in children. Heather Anschuetz-Jeffers, PhD
Heather Anschuetz-Jeffers, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and has been practicing in the field of psychology since 1999. She specializes in the treatment of adolescents and adults with depression, generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, grief and loss, and relationship and adjustment issues. She also provides family, couple's, and marital counseling. Dr. Anschuetz-Jeffers earned her graduate degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, obtaining a master's in marriage and family therapy in 1999 and a doctorate in educational psychology in 2005. Her therapeutic orientation is psychodynamic and relational in nature. She also integrates cognitive-behavioral interventions when appropriate and will design a treatment plan to suit specific client-needs.
Misty L. Collier MA, LPA
Misty L. Collier MA, LPA, received her Masters Degree in Clinical/Community Psychology from UNC-Charlotte in 2003. She is a Licensed Psychological Associate and Health Service Provider who works with families, couples, and individuals of all ages. She has work experience in a variety of different treatment settings including Inpatient Hospitalization, Partial Hospitalization, Psychiatric Emergency Room Assessment, and Intensive Outpatient Treatment. Ms. Collier has experience treating clients with Depression, ADHD, anger management problems, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Conduct Disorder. Ms. Collier utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, and Person-Centered models for treatment and uses recreational therapy, play therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral interventions to address treatment goals. She also specializes in parent education/training and behavior contracts for children and adolescents.
Jessica Henkel, MSW, LCSW
Jessica Henkel, MSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a specialization in working with children and families. Jessica works with clients of all ages and conducts individual and family therapy. She earned her undergraduate degree from Elon University and her Masters degree from University of Maryland. Her work experience is varied, and includes an inpatient psychiatric unit, a residential treatment facility, schools, and outpatient settings. Her specialties include generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, depression, adjustment disorders, and disruptive behavior disorder. When working with children and adolescents she enjoys integrating various techniques from play therapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and having parents integrated in their child's treatment. Robyn Macfarlane, MA, NCC, LPC
Robyn Macfarlane, MA, NCC, LPC has been in the counseling field since 1996 and received her Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2002. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of North Carolina. Ms. Macfarlane has experience working with adults and adolescents conducting individual and family therapy. She has treated clients with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, grief issues, addiction, career related issues, and survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Ms. Macfarlane views counseling as a collaborative effort in which she will assist each client in gathering information, exploring various issues, and changing thoughts, feeling, and behaviors in the desired direction. Although her counseling style is eclectic, she tends to use a client-centered approach in conjunction with reality-based and solution focused applications.
Erin L. McAdams, MA, LPA, CCAS
Erin L. McAdams, MA, LPC, CCAS is a Licensed Professional Counselor with certification as a Certified Clinical Addictions Specialist specializing in the treatment of adolescents and young adults. She received her Masters Degree in Community Counseling in 1999 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Ms. McAdams has worked in a variety of different settings including substance abuse treatment centers (methadone programs, intensive outpatient group therapy, and residential programs), and behavioral health centers providing treatment for clients with dual diagnoses (combined substance abuse and mental health concerns). Ms. McAdams also has experience treating clients with ADHD, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder/Conduct Disorder. Ms. McAdams' therapeutic approach utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Recreational Therapy
David K. Garver, MA, LMFT
David K. Garver, MA, LMFT joined University Psychological Associates in 2007. He earned his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco in 1996. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, his clinical work has been in both community mental health and private practice in San Francisco, California. Mr. Garver integrates Family Systems theory and strength-based approaches with his clients. He works with adults with trauma histories, adjustment/transitions, and family issues. Mr. Garver brings to UPA his enthusiasm for developing healthy relationships within couples and families. He also focuses on helping individuals gain greater self-esteem and assertiveness so that they may lead more satisfying, fulfilling lives.
